On June 10, 2024, a delegation from Africa visited Klaipėda University (KU). During the visit, the guests met with Assoc. Prof. Laura Šaltytė-Vaisiauskė, the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, and Prof. Daiva Mockevičienė, the Head of the Department of Holistic Medicine and Rehabilitation. The delegates were introduced to the University, its activities, research, and projects, and were told more about study opportunities for international students.

The delegation from Africa got acquainted with the study programs offered by KU for foreign students. Young people from Nigeria are already studying at KU. Most of them have chosen to study social work.

The University presented its research in the fields of ecology, renewable energy, health, history and archaeology, social sciences and liberal arts, engineering, as well as marine research. The guests were also introduced to the newly opened KU Methodological STEAM Centre, where they could interact with the humanoid robot “Pipiras”. They visited the laboratories and the KU fleet. They were told about KU’s membership in the EU-CONEXUS Alliance (the European University for Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability), which is made up of 9 European partner universities. The Alliance membership is particularly significant, as it represents an integrated transnational higher education and research institution covering the smart urban sustainable coastal development.

In addition to higher education institutions, the African delegation also visited business representatives and the municipality of Klaipėda. Their aim was to take a message to Africa about Lithuania as well as the opportunities for cooperation between business and science.
