Ikimokyklinio amžiaus vaikų saugaus elgesio ir savisaugos įgūdžių ugdymas(is)
Children of preschool age are mobile, seek to know the world in various ways, but have not yet developed certain skills of safe behavior and self-protection. For these reasons, children of this age are at high risk of traffic accidents, burns, falls, and injuries on playgrounds. Such injuries can be prevented by developing children's safe behavior and self-protection skills from an early age. Problem: what are the possibilities for the development of safe behavior and self-protection skills of preschool children? Object of the thesis: development of safe behavior and self-protection skills of preschool children. Aim of the thesis: to study on a theoretical and empirical basis the peculiarities and possibilities of developing children's safe behavior and self-protection skills. Objectives of the thesis: 1. To reveal the theoretical aspects of the development of safe behavior and self-protection skills in preschool children. 2. To explore the opinion of parents about the characteristics and possibilities of developing children's safe behavior and self-protection skills in the family and preschool education institution. 3. To analyze the opinion of pre-school education pedagogues about the features and possibilities of developing safe behavior and self-protection skills in a pre-school education institution. 4. To present a theoretically and empirically based theoretical hypothetical model for the development of safe behavior and self-protection skills of preschool children. Methods of the thesis: theoretical - analysis of scientific literature and documents (description, systematization, abstraction); empirical - written survey (questionnaire), interview; data analysis - statistical data analysis, content analysis. For empirical research, quantitative and qualitative research strategies are chosen. In September 2023, as part of the qualitative survey, the questionnaire was compiled for parents raising children aged 3-5 years, placed on the website of our „apklausa.lt“ and sent to pre-school educational institutions. 204 parents were interviewed. In April 2024, a semi-structured interview was conducted, during which 5 educators were asked about the development of safe behavior and self-protection skills in a preschool institution. According to the parents, preschool children suffered one or more injuries during 3 months, and the nature of the injuries in the home environment and in the preschool education institution were accidental injuries. At home, children mostly experienced the mechanical effects of dead forces, and in the pre-school educational institution, the mechanical effects of living forces. Both in the home environment and in the environment of the pre-school education institution, children mostly injured their upper limbs, and they suffered injuries in the yard. Research data show that the occurrence of physical injuries and their experience were determined by the mobility of children and the peculiarities of the preschool age. Parents taught children safe behavior and self-defense skills through conversation. Parents cooperated with educators on issues of safe behavior and self-protection skills once a month, during meetings. According to pedagogues, children in pre-school educational institutions usually experience beatings, and the reason for experiencing injuries is the peculiarities of children's age. According to the teachers, a safe physical (material) educational environment created by the whole community could ensure children's safety and contribute to the development of safe behavior and self-defense skills. Although the pedagogues used game and conversation methods in the educational process, such educational methods as: instruction on performing safe actions are missing; training and repetition of safe actions; safe behavior simulation exercises, during which children could improve their self-protection skills. The results of the study showed that parents cooperate with educators during individual interviews, but in order to achieve targeted and consistent development of children's safe behavior and self-protection skills, there is still a lack of targeted pedagogical education of parents and the involvement of parents themselves in children's safe behavior and self-protection skills development process. On the basis of empirical and theoretical research, a theoretical hypothetical model was developed for the development of safe behavior and self-protection skills in preschool children.
